Toledo Mpowerment is a social/HIV prevention group for gay/bi/transgender men ages 18-29. There are several types of meetings and events that Toledo Mpowerment has.
The monthly meeting is always the first Wednesday of the month unless otherwise specified. This meeting is typically the busiest meeting. It always features announcements of upcoming events, a fun and engaging ice breaker, an education session on a topic of interest, a discussion of a hot topic, and a group activity or game at the end of the meeting.
While we do focus on educating and empowering our members, we like to focus on having fun as well! Toledo Mpowerment offers a wide variety of social events. We have smaller, in office events like game night and movie nights, and we also have bigger in office events like our holiday parties. We also have meetings outside of our office which include bowling, coffee talks, mall outings, day trips and more! There is always at least one social event a week at Toledo Mpowerment!
To help promote safer sex and HIV testing in Toledo’s LGBT community, once a month we go out to the local gay bars and hand out condom kits. This activity helps continue to have a strong connection with Toledo’s LGBT scene all the while helping get our messages out to the community.
About once a quarter, Toledo Mpowerment takes part in events with other businesses and organizations. We do a lot of events with some of the local gay bars, and we also partake in Toledo Pride. Toledo Mpowerment loves working with other groups, and are looking to have more big events in the next few months. Stay tuned!
